A new feature in Google's Quick Share tool lets users start file transfers without interruption. Previously available only on Samsung Galaxy smartphones, the capability allows a phone to move a file to another device even if the direct connection is lost. These continuous file transfers are significantly slower than a direct connection between two phones and require mobile data or a Wi-Fi connection to finish. Sharing files with strangers is now simpler thanks to a new QR code function that Google added to Quick Share lately.

Google Enables Fast Sharing with Uninterrupted File Transfers
An enhancement to phone connectivity is included in the changelog for the most recent Google Play Services v25.04 upgrade (via Android Police). According to the firm, customers can still transmit files "over Wi-Fi or mobile data" even if they lose the direct connection between the two devices.

Users will be able to upload files via their phone's 4G or 5G connection, or over a Wi-Fi network, after the most recent version of Play Services is made available to Android handsets in the upcoming weeks. In the past, Quick Share transfers did not work if there was a disruption in the direct phone connection between the sender and recipient.

Previously, Samsung Galaxy smartphones, which similarly relied on cellular or Wi-Fi connections to complete file transfers, had the capability to transmit files without a direct connection. Additionally, when the devices are out of range, Apple's 'Use Mobile Data' option enables users to AirDrop files to others over a cellular connection.

It's important to remember that any file transfers over cellular connections will depend on the data allotment of the telecom provider and may lead to exorbitant fees. Because of this, users may choose to turn off the feature or permit unbroken transfers via Wi-Fi networks.

Google unveiled a new QR code function a few weeks ago that allows users to start Quick Share transfers with other Android smartphones. Using a QR code to establish a connection, the functionality makes it simple for an Android user to share a file with another device. In the near future, all users should be able to access this service, which is now rolling out to compatible Android smartphones.
