Samsung currently offers two different folding models: the Galaxy Fold and the Galaxy Flip. The Flip folds vertically, whereas the Galaxy Fold is bigger and unfolds horizontally like a book. Samsung reportedly has a tri-fold design in the works for another foldable device.
More details regarding Samsung's tri-fold tablet were revealed this week, but there have been rumours of it for a while. At its Unpacked event, Samsung even hinted that it would be a "multi-fold" device. According to GSMArena, it appears that Samsung may decide to call it the Galaxy G Fold, which would differentiate it from the Z Fold variants.
Expected to stretch out into a 10-inch screen, the tri-fold smartphone would be a major improvement above Samsung's current top Z Fold6 foldable smartphone. The Z Flip6 is 6.7 inches when unfurled, and the Z Fold6 is 7.6 inches when opened.
Since Huawei has previously produced the Mate XT Ultimate, Samsung will not be the first tri-fold smartphone to hit the market. Samsung will be the first to release a tri-fold smartphone in regions outside of China because Huawei's gadget is unavailable in the US and costs $2,800.
It appears that the tri-fold smartphone may be announced this year before launching in early 2026. Samsung usually launches new folding devices around July.
Since 2026 is the earliest we anticipate seeing an Apple foldable, Samsung's tri-fold smartphone will beat any Apple foldable to market if it comes in early 2026.
According to rumours, Apple was developing a foldable iPhone as early as 2024 that would have a vertical fold like the Galaxy Z Flip. With the ability to fold in half for a more compact design, such a gadget would probably be about the same size as the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
