Alongside the regular Galaxy S25 models, Samsung recently unveiled the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which had a number of updates, including a completely new look. Even though the Galaxy S25 Ultra's appearance looks substantially different from earlier Ultra models, it weighs only 218 grammes as opposed to 232 grammes for the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Its new S Pen is also partially to blame for this. This year, it is lighter by removing some internal components and reducing some functionality. On its US website, Samsung has finally disclosed the pricing of a new S Pen replacement, and oddly, it is just as expensive as the original.

Samsung's official US website now sells the S Pen for the Galaxy S25 Ultra. A new S Pen will cost $49.99 (about Rs. 4,358), just like the previous model, as the website makes clear. We verified this on Samsung's India website, although the accessory does not yet have a price tag.

Originally released with Samsung's now-defunct Galaxy Note line of devices, which were referred to as "phablets," the S Pen is a necessary accessory for the Galaxy Ultra versions. This was made possible by Samsung's S Pen, which over time added new functionalities and had its own battery. But the newest styli are devoid of technology and a battery.

In a recent article, Samsung explained that, unlike earlier S Pens, its new Galaxy S25 Ultra S Pen does not support Bluetooth-enabled S Pen interactions. This is due to the fact that the new S Pen lacks the battery that typically drives the low-frequency pairing. This made it possible for features like Air Actions and the camera app's remote clicker function. Older versions of the S Pen can currently do these (when coupled with older smartphones). Only simple stylus functions like scribbling, selecting, and Circle to Search are supported in its current state.

Currently, the only devices with an inbuilt S Pen silo—where the S Pen slides in and may be kept when not in use—are the Ultra versions from Samsung's Galaxy S series. To hold its S Pen, even Samsung's book-style foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold 6, requires an add-on case accessory, which is offered separately. Actually, unlike earlier S Pen versions, the Galaxy Z Fold 6's unique S Pen Fold Edition does not require charging because it lacks Bluetooth. With the exception of the Galaxy Tablets, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is now the final Samsung product to enable the more sophisticated and fuller S Pen experience.
