Today, Apple made the updated software available to the entire public by sending public beta testers the third betas of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. One week has passed since Apple released the second public beta.

The iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 updates can be downloaded by public beta testers who have enrolled in Apple's beta testing program. To accomplish this, launch the Settings app, navigate to General, tap the Software Update section, and choose the iOS 18 Public Beta option.

Apple Intelligence, a set of AI capabilities deeply ingrained in the operating system, is unveiled in iOS 18. It includes Writing Tools for rewriting, refining, proofreading, and summarising content across apps, and Image Playground allows you to create own graphics, however not all capability is available at this moment. With the Genmoji feature, users can create personalised emoji, while Siri is undergoing a complete redesign. Take note that the public betas of Apple Intelligence are not yet operational.

The AI capabilities of iOS 18 will only be available on the iPhone 15 Pro models and iPads in the M-series. In addition, the Home Screen has been revamped with the ability to rearrange app icons and widgets with empty spaces, a tint option, and new, darker colours for Dark Mode.

With the new Controls Gallery, you can customise what you wish to see front and centre in Control Center's redesign. You can arrange relevant controls together on different pages and change the widths. This update allows you to change the Camera and Flashlight icons on the Lock Screen and select Control Centre settings for the iPhone 15 Pro Action Button.

The Messages app allows you to send messages via satellite, schedule SMS, and utilise any emoji for the Tapback feature. Any word, phrase, or emoji can have text effects applied to it, and formatting options such as bold and italic are available. Apple now supports RCS for texting with Android users, so transferring files and images won't be problematic. You can also send texts over Wi-Fi, view typing indicators, and read receipts.

Safari can condense webpages and provide you with pertinent information quickly, while the Photos app has undergone a redesign with an increased emphasis on showcasing your greatest images. You can now lock any app using Touch ID or Face ID, and access to your saved logins and passwords is made easier with a separate Passwords app.

Apple is adding support for Distraction Control, a function that lets you conceal distracting elements on webpages like popups, specifically with today's beta.

We haven't covered all of the new features in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, so be sure to check out our roundups of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 for a more thorough look.
