The ability to view profile images in group conversations was a newly-announced feature for WhatsApp Desktop beta that was revealed in an article we published in October. In order to improve group member recognition, WhatsApp really planned to roll out this functionality on desktop and iOS beta. After installing the WhatsApp beta for iOS 22.23.0.70 update, this feature has been made available on iOS, and some beta testers who may have gotten it after updating to the most recent WhatsApp Desktop beta may now use it:
Opening a group conversation is the easiest way to determine whether the functionality is already enabled for your WhatsApp account, as you can see in this picture. As always, if the function is not accessible for your account or if profile icons do not appear next to chat bubbles, you must wait for a new update.
As we detailed in our previous post, the default profile symbol appears and is coloured using the same colour as the contact name if a group member hasn't set up a profile photo or if it is concealed owing to their privacy settings. We can identify group members for when we don't have a phone number or in cases where they have the same name thanks to this capability.
After installing the WhatsApp Desktop beta 2.2245.3 update, this functionality was made available to certain beta testers, and it will gradually be made available to additional accounts over the next several days. It should be noted that the same functionality will eventually be published on WhatsApp beta for Android; as always, a news story will be posted on our page.
