Between the months of July and September 2022, YouTube took down 5.6 million (56 lakh) videos for breaking community rules.

During the two months, the platform received about 2,71,000 removal appeals. After consideration, it reinstated around 29,000 appeals, according to YouTube's most recent blog.

According to a blog post written by Matt Halprin, vice president, global head of trust and safety, and Jennifer Flannery O'Connor, vice president, product management, for every 10,000 views from July through September of this year, between 10 and 11 were of content that was against the community guidelines.

In order to better understand the accuracy of its systems, YouTube also keeps track of the amount of appeals that producers make in response to videos that are deleted.

Language and expression are addressed under the Community Guidelines.

According to the blog, the global video-sharing platform's guiding focus is on one main objective — preventing egregious real-world harm — as it works to keep its policies up to date with the current environment.

The blog claims that while it would remove all offensive content from YouTube in order to prevent egregious real-world harm, it generally believes that "open debate and free expression" promotes better societal outcomes.

However, the blog post noted that "we're careful to draw a line around content that may cause egregious harm to our users or to the platform."

In order to inform this policy review, YouTube said it also collaborates closely with NGOs, academics, and pertinent experts from all sides and various nations.

"To comprehend the effects of drawing various policy lines, we watch dozens or even hundreds of films. Drawing a line in the sand never refers to a specific video; rather, it involves considering the impact on all films and determining which would be taken down and which may remain online in accordance with the new policy. After conducting a thorough review, the team shares several options for policy lines, detailing examples of videos that would be approved or removed for each (as well as various enforcement actions, such as removal vs. age restriction), "It was ad.
