Closed Beta Test for Nothing Phone 1's Android 13 Update has Begun; Open Beta in Two Weeks

The restricted beta testing for Nothing Phone 1 Android 13 will start today, teased firm CEO Carl Pei. In two weeks, the open beta testing will start. Pei teased Nothing OS 1.5.0 earlier this month, the Android 13-based upgrade for Nothing 1 Phone. Users of the Nothing Phone 1 have only recently begun to receive the Nothing OS 1.1.7 upgrade. The most recent update included the Android security patch for November 2022 in addition to bug fixes and other minor improvements.

The Nothing Phone 1 Android 13 closed beta testing will start today, according to a recent tweet by Carl Pei. In the next two weeks, the smartphone manufacturer plans to deliver the Open Beta upgrade.

CEO Carl Pei had previewed the Android 13 upgrade for the Nothing Phone 1 earlier this month. He shared an image of the Nothing Phone 1's About Phone section running Nothing OS 1.5.0, which some speculated was based on Android 13. The latest Android 13-based Nothing OS update should enhance performance as well as provide some fresh features and upgrades to the Nothing Phone 1, which currently runs a nearly stock version of Android.

Users of the Phone 1 had lately begun receiving the Nothing OS 1.1.7 upgrade. The Android security patch for November 2022 was included in this release, along with bug fixes and other minor adjustments. Prior to this, Imint and Nothing announced a cooperation to offer better video stabilisation. The London-based maker was also among the first to provide consumers in India an OTA update that enabled Jio True 5G capability.

The London-based company's first smartphone, the Nothing Phone 1, was unveiled in India in July. For the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant, the phone costs Rs. 32,999, and for the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant, it costs Rs. 35,999. The dual-SIM (nano) phone runs Nothing OS, an Android 12-based operating system, and has a 6.55-inch full-HD+ OLED screen. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ SoC and up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM power the smartphone.
