For smartphones, LG has created a ground-breaking new telephoto camera component that will enable users to zoom in from a distance without sacrificing image or video quality. On Tuesday, the business unveiled its optical telephoto zoom camera module. According to the firm, the new zoom lens will use telescopic features comparable to those of a DSLR camera, producing clear images even at 4x or 9x zoom ranges. The new optical zoom camera will be fully unveiled at the CES in 2023, according to LG Innotek, a division of LG that makes electrical components.
According to a press release from LG Innotek, the new camera will be positioned on the back of a smartphone and will enable optical zoom while allowing for one camera module to record at all conceivable magnifications between 4x and 9x.
Existing telephoto lenses only provide optical zoom during filming in a few defined magnification levels, with digital zoom used in between. Multiple zoom cameras would need to be mounted on smartphones in order to support recording high-definition movies at various magnifications.
LG's new camera, on the other hand, reportedly does the same task in a single module, freeing up more room on the phone for other parts and enhancing battery life.
For their new optical zoom camera, LG created a brand-new zoom actuator, a camera part that moves the lens to alter the focal length. According to the business, the actuator offers zooming capabilities that are both quicker and more precise. OIS will be supported by the camera module as well.
Further, LG Innotek asserts that their brand-new camera module is slimmer than earlier models, lessening the dreaded camera bump. The business added that it is collaborating with Qualcomm to improve the camera software for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 platform, including auto-focus, auto-exposure, and auto-white balance.
Major smartphones may soon use the new camera module, which LG will introduce at CES 2023, which starts on January 5.
