As part of the company's Open Beta initiative, Nothing Phone 1 customers get access to Nothing OS 1.5 beta. The Android-13-based update's closed beta testing was started by the London-based smartphone and electronics company on November 30. In two weeks, an open beta version would be made available for a broader group of consumers. The stable upgrade for Nothing OS 1.5, which is based on Android 13, is anticipated to be published in early 2023, although those who do not wish to test the beta version may have to wait a few months.
The developer of the Nothing Phone 1 announced the opening of its Open Beta programme for the Nothing OS 1.5 upgrade, which is based on Android 13. The precise release date was earlier announced as "early 2023."
The recent Android 13-based update gives Nothing Phone 1 customers a 50% performance boost while loading apps, claims the company's official blog post. The upgrade also adds a new weather app with the business's customised Nothing UI and multi-language compatibility for third-party applications.
Other updates include a new QR code scanner button in the Quick Settings menu, a clipboard preview function that enables users to edit text copied by them before pasting it, a live caption function that creates captions automatically based on detected speech audio, and a "self-repair" function that automatically clears unused cached and expired system dumps.
Other UI adjustments in the most recent version include the addition of new colour palettes to Android 13's Material design. Users will be able to adapt the colours of third-party apps to their background thanks to the design of the Nothing OS, which also features a new UI for light alerts and Google Game Dashboard for a more streamlined experience while the Nothing Phone 1 is in Game Mode.
Users will also be able to close active background apps more easily with an option to clear apps now being made available on the notification center, according to Nothing.
Nothing has also added Android 13's privacy enhancements to its most recent Nothing OS 1.5 beta update, which includes an improved photo picker, a notifications permissions feature that lets users control which apps can send push notifications, and a media permissions feature that lets users group different types of media, such as photos and videos, music, and audio, together.
However, Nothing stated that the completely stable version of the Nothing OS 1.5, which is anticipated to debut early next year, would include additional functions.
