One UI 5, which is based on Android 13, is apparently being updated for the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE and Galaxy S20 FE. Both of the company's previous premium "Fan Edition" smartphones were introduced in India. In addition to performance enhancements and aesthetic changes, the updates for phones also include new capabilities that are pre-integrated into Samsung's bespoke One UI 5.0 interface. It's important to keep in mind that the One UI 5 update is now only available for the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE Exynos variant.
According to SamMobile, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G, the newest model of the Fan Edition, received the update first before moving on to the older Fan Edition smartphone.
Only the Galaxy S20 FE with the Exynos processor (or the 4G/LTE model) is currently receiving the update. The Galaxy S20 FE 5G (with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC) has not yet received the Android 13 upgrade.
According to the report, the update has begun to roll out for smartphones sold in Russia and will soon be available for smartphones sold in other regions. Updated firmware for the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is version G780FXXUAEVK3, which is about 2GB in size and includes the Android security patch for November 2022.
The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G's international model (SM-G990B) is now receiving the Android 13 update, which brings the device's software to version G990BXXU2DVK3. The roughly 2.3GB update is now starting to be distributed globally in batches.
Users of both smartphones can check for updates by going to Settings > Software update > Download and install when available if they haven't received the notification for the over-the-air update.
For devices running the software, Android 13 adds a tonne of new features. With One UI, Samsung users get a lot of cosmetic enhancements, such as a new lock screen, new app icons, multitasking gestures, and more, even though they must put up with a slightly skinned operating system (compared to Google Pixel smartphones). The update also includes underlying Android 13 features and updates as well as performance enhancements.
Recall that the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE and its 5G edition were first publicly revealed in 2020. In September 2020, the smartphone with an Exynos 990 SoC was initially only available in India. In March 2021, Samsung released the 5G version as a follow-up. With the Exynos 2100 processor, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE (debuting in January 2022) moved back to an Exynos SoC.
