The Xiaomi Mix Fold, Xiaomi's first commercial foldable, was first introduced on the market in 2021. The company's initial try at this new form factor was the phone, which did a respectable job of delivering a foldable experience. The phone had a noticeable wrinkle on the internal display and an odd resolution on both the foldable and cover displays, so it wasn't great. Design

For its first foldable, Xiaomi went all out in terms of RAM configuration. The phone had 16GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage. The new Mix Fold 2, in contrast, has a maximum of 12GB RAM and up to 1TB of storage.

The Mix Fold 2's operating system is the more recent MIUI Fold 13 OS, which is based on Android 12. The first Mix Fold was createdwith Android 10-based MIUI 12. But it is expected to receive MIUI 13 in the coming months. Both phones have features tweaked to take full advantage of their foldable form factor. While the original Mix Fold started off with limited foldable UI tweaks, subsequent updates have added a bunch of foldable-specific features to the device.

 Camera

The cameras on both foldables are excellent. However, the camera module of the new Mix Fold 2 has been optimised based on Leica technology. A 50MP f/1.8 primary camera with OIS, a second 8MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom, and a 13MP ultra wide camera are all standard on the Mix Fold 2.

The original Mix has a 13MP Ultra Wide camera and the same 108MP primary camera as the Mix Fold 2. It also included a telephoto camera with a 3x optical zoom.

Both generations have the same 20MP selfie camera on the front.

The camera arrangement on the Mix Fold is actually rather decent, even though the Mix Fold 2 has a superior camera setup with a new chip that should enable better picture processing.Only a real-life comparison would help us identify the better cameras among these two phones.

Battery

Unexpectedly, the battery size of the original Mix Fold was more than that of the latest iteration. It had a battery capacity of 5000mAh and 67W fast charging, the same charging rate as the current Mix Fold 2. However, the next generation model's battery capacity has been decreased to 4500mAh, probably as a result of its lighter and smaller profile.

Unfortunately, unlike the Galaxy Z Fold series, neither of these phones supports wireless charging.

While the Xiaomi Mix Fold can currently be purchased for as little as $1,000, the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold 2 starts at 8,999 yuan ($1,335) for the base 256GB storage. The Xiaomi foldable retails for about $1700 through Giztop and is somewhat pricey to purchase given that it is a brand-new product.

Without a doubt that the Mix Fold 2 is a way superior foldable, even one of the best options for a foldable in the 2022 market. However, it does come at a cost internationally, and if you can get the original Mix Fold for less than $1000, it might actually be a tempting offer.
