Do you know where you keep your SIM ejector tool? You know those small metal things that come with new phones every now and then? No, neither do I, but don't give up hope. Fortunately for you and me, I've frequently MacGyvered my way into the SIM card tray and microSD card slot. Here are a few simple methods for opening the SIM card slot without a SIM tool.
Piercing or earrings
The perfect tool for the work may be closer than you realise, such as on your own body. Thinner wires or hooks on traditional earrings work best. Others may require you to unscrew the ball/spike at the end. Extreme piercings may be too huge to function as SIM tray openers. (Watch out for bending your jewellery!)
Paperclip
If you work in an office, this is probably the second most prevalent item. Not the large plastic-coated paperclips, but any little metal paper clip will cause your SIM tray to be ejected. When you're finished, you may use it to connect various pieces of paper.
Needle
If you fix socks and pants as much as I do (you don't want to know), you'll have a needle somewhere in the home. Simply insert the non-pointy end into the SIM eject hole and press down on a table edge. I wouldn't recommend doing this with your hand. But dire circumstances call for extreme means!
Thumbtack/staple
The modest thumbtack is another item that may be found in most homes and businesses. There are many different forms and sizes, but they can all access your SIM tray. If you're thinking beyond the box, you've undoubtedly figured that a staple might also be used.
The Safety Pin
A safety pin is quite common and may be found in almost every household. It's an excellent sim tool because of its sharp, pointed edge. Because its design allows for greater force to be (safely) exerted, I believe safety pins are a better sim ejector tool than needles.
Toothpicks
This is a last resort option if none of the things listed above are available to you. However, you are well aware that most toothpicks are too thick to fit into the small SIM hole. To get around this, you may need to use a knife to whittle away some buts towards the bottom.
If none of these items work, search for any pointy thing you have laying about - and if you still fail your goal, it's time to go to the shop for a remedy.
Go to a store and politely inquire.
If you're ever out and about and need to pull out your SIM card tray, as I have in the past, one of the simplest solutions is to stop by a local store. Of course, if you're in the middle of the woods, you're out of luck, but if you're in a city with a huge shopping mall or a high-street phone carrier store, you shouldn't be concerned.
When I walked into a cell phone store the other day to ask them to unlock my SIM tray, the friendly staff was wearing a SIM tool around his neck and was more than ready to assist me for free.
