According to an image posted by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is currently working on a feature that will allow Android users to export and import their conversation backups offline from Google Drive. According to the information provided, the backup includes the whole conversation history, photos, videos, and other media items. This feature was previously rumoured to be under development in June of this year, but the most recent developments on this upgrade indicate that WhatsApp is eager to put it out for beta testing in the near future.

WhatsApp has received a new update via the Google Play Beta Program, raising the app's version to 2.22.20.10. "If you exported a backup from your prior device, you may import it immediately," according to the picture supplied by WABetaInfo. This is a new/additional step that you must perform when you reinstall WhatsApp on your phone or move handsets. If you choose to import, it will begin restoring your data from Google Drive to the devices' local storage.

When you don't have an internet connection or high-speed Wi-Fi, this capability will come in useful. WhatsApp will automatically build a local backup, which you may export and import later. There is currently no way to import a local backup. When you set up WhatsApp on a new smartphone, it invites you to import a backup from the Google account associated with the device.

The ability to export and import backups locally was discovered earlier this year. WABetaInfo also revealed that WhatsApp backups on Google Drive will be allocated restricted storage space. This implies that once users reach a certain level on Google Drive, they will be able to import their chat backups and save their backed-up data offline on their device. When enough space is available, users will be able to transfer their conversation backups back to Google Drive.

It remains to be seen whether WhatsApp will provide a comparable option for WhatsApp for iOS when WhatsApp for Android is available. According to the WhatsApp features tracker, the feature is still in development, which implies it is not yet ready for beta testers. There is no word on a release date as of yet.
