Previous news? | WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.20.5: what’s new? This is a bug fix update that addresses an issue with the camera shortcut! |
We announced a brand-new feature that was in the works more than two years ago: the ability to search messages by date. As we just mentioned, this function was being developed two years ago, but after some time, they decided against making it available to the general public. As a result, the feature's development has been discontinued. Things like that frequently occur while features are being developed (not just for WhatsApp), thus we should always prepare for the possibility that things may go wrong after a feature is announced on this page for no apparent reason. Unexpectedly, we learned that WhatsApp is finally going to rerelease the feature after we released the WhatsApp beta for iOS 22.0.19.73 upgrade from TestFlight.
When you search for a message within a chat, as seen in this example, a new calendar icon will appear. With the help of this symbol, you can easily jump to a specific date and begin reading all messages that were sent on that day. Just scroll through the discussion to hide the date view.
This function will be very helpful, especially if you want to view the shared messages on a specific day or find the initial message that was sent to a specific contact.
Although the feature is still under development in this release, we are glad to report that WhatsApp is once again working on it after abandoning the project two years ago. As a result, we can anticipate to see it in a future update of the application.
