Previous news? | WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.20.9: what’s new? WhatsApp is releasing the ability to hide the online status! |
We released a snapshot of a "export backup" option, a new feature in development, in the article on the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.13.11 upgrade. This option allows users to obtain a copy of their most recent WhatsApp backup, which includes all chats and material. There was no more information about the usage of this backup accessible, but due to the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.20.10 update, we learned that the team is working on the possibility to import such backup:
As seen in the picture, when you try to log into WhatsApp from a different device (or the same one if you reinstalled the app), you will be able to simply import that saved backup due to a new "import" option. We're not sure why WhatsApp opted to add another option for restoring a backup, but it might be beneficial if you don't have a Wi-Fi connection and a local backup that WhatsApp has automatically made so you can export a backup to import later.
Unfortunately, the feature that allows us to import (and export) backups is still in development, thus it is not yet ready for beta testers, and we have no idea when it will be launched. When WhatsApp rolls out the capability to beta users in the future, there will undoubtedly be another article.
