A new junior member of the Galaxy A series has been released; it is an improvement over and a follow-up to the A03s from last year. The new model debuted in Northern Europe without a launch event, therefore information regarding availability is still pending.
The Samsung Galaxy A04s is a capable entry-level phone, despite being very much at that level. It comes pre-installed with Android 12 and One UI Core 4.1, a scaled-down variation of Samsung's UI.
The manufacturer is keeping quiet about the chipset, but we think it's the Exynos 850. Since it has eight Cortex-A55 cores and is an 8nm processor, it should be substantially more efficient than the 28nm Unisoc chip found within the current Galaxy A04. It is quicker than the Helio P35 of the A03s from last year and has eight Cortex-A55 cores. Versions are available with 32, 64, or 128GB of internal storage and 3 or 4GB of RAM. You can easily add more because the phone includes a microSD slot.
The display of the "s" variant has also been improved; while it is still a rather basic 6.5" PLS LCD with 720 x 1,600 pixels (20:9), it now has a more sprightly 90Hz refresh rate (up from the standard 60Hz). There is a notch in the display. the usual 5MP selfie camera.
The 50MP main camera is the only standout component of the triple configuration on the rear. It can record 1080p video at 30 frames per second like on the A04. A 2MP depth sensor and an additional 2MP module with a macro camera are also present.
Like the other A0x versions, the battery has a 5,000mAh capacity. It lasts for up to 90 hours of music playback or 21 hours of web browsing (via Wi-Fi). This improvement's use of USB-C for charging is one that is desperately required. Although fast charging is still not available, we appreciate the removal of the microUSB connector.
Before we finish, we need to highlight a few more treats. A 3.5mm headphone jack that supports Dolby Atmos is present. Here is adual-SIM phone (with a dedicated microSD slot) and 4G connectivity, plus Wi-Fi 5 (ac) and Bluetooth 5.0. Finally, there is a fingerprint reader on the side.
