Clean Electricity Charging, a feature that will assist to optimise charging times for when the energy grid is using greener energy sources, will be available later this year for iPhone devices in the United States. According to the Cupertino-based tech firm, the new feature's goal is to lessen the carbon impact generated by its iPhone phones. In 2020, Apple stated that it will commit to become carbon neutral throughout its entire company over the following decade, including its products and vast supply chain.
With the release of iOS 16, Apple also revealed that a new Clean Energy Charging feature would be available to compatible iPhone models running iOS 16 later this year. The new function was hinted in a footnote in the company's press statement. According to Apple, the Clean Energy Charging function will assist to optimise charging times for when the grid is utilising cleaner energy sources and will be available to consumers in the United States.
Apple stated in 2020 that it intends to eliminate carbon emissions from its whole company, including its products and vast supply chain, by 2030.
The iPhone manufacturer stated at the time that its global corporate operations, such as offices and data centres, were already carbon neutral, but that it will expand its efforts to the thousands of suppliers that contribute to its products.
Apple also indicated that it hoped to accomplish 75 percent of the target via cutting emissions, with the remaining 25 percent coming from carbon removal or offset operations such as tree planting and habitat restoration.
