Some people will benefit from the pricing adjustments for Microsoft Teams, but not everyone.

Microsoft's collaboration solution for in-office meeting rooms, Teams Rooms, has announced adjustments to its pricing scheme.

Teams Rooms Basic and Teams Rooms Pro, which are priced at $15/£11.30 and $50/£37.70 per device per month respectively, will be the company's replacement for the Standard and Premium subscriptions, which are currently available.

Any Teams Room-certified device can be purchased for free with the Basic plan, which costs $40 per user per month and scales up to 25 devices. The UK pricing has not yet been confirmed for TechRadar Pro.

Although Microsoft has changed the name of its Teams Rooms product, the goal has not changed: to give companies the resources they need to enable emerging hybrid working and video conferencing use cases.

"The nature of labour will change. In a blog post, Microsoft stated that enterprises now more than ever want a single, integrated experience that makes working together for their employees easier and more enjoyable, whether they are all in the same room, remote, or - for many of us - a combination of both (opens in new tab).

The ability to hold excellent hybrid meetings and collaborate effectively is now essential. Microsoft is pleased to introduce updates to Microsoft Teams Rooms that make it simpler to begin your hybrid journey as a result.

The sophistication of the services offered is the primary distinction between the free and premium plans. Teams Rooms Basic will enable smaller businesses to organise and attend meetings, but it is deficient in administration and security features compared to Teams Rooms Pro.

It is also said that the premium edition provides a greater range of in-meeting features and capabilities. For instance, the service offers a wider variety of video arrangement options, better noise cancellation, and performance-enhancing internal features. Additionally, it includes live reaction features that are intended to boost interaction.

Due to the change from a per device to a per user subscription model, it will depend on the customer whether or not the new arrangement would result in cost savings. The new approach may end up being more expensive for a mid-sized business whose fleet of Teams Rooms devices is much fewer than the number of employees.

Once their current subscription term has expired, customers who are currently enrolled in the traditional Standard and Premium plans will be switched over to the new Teams Rooms pricing structure.
