Users in the US received a message from Samsung through email on Friday (I personally received a notice as well). The subject line of the email from Samsung USA read: "An important notice about customer information."
According to the email, the incident occured some time in July 2022. Samsung discovered that data was compromised on August 4 (almost a month later), but it took thus long to inform customers. Before alerting users, Samsung may have sought to confirm what specific data was hacked. Samsung continues by outlining the types of data that might have been impacted.
Customers who open the email are sent to a landing page for Samsung's security response centre, which contains contact details for the US's major credit bureaus. In spite of Social Securityor credit card numbers were seemingly not affected, customers should continue to monitor their credit reports for any unusual activity.
This notice applies to US-based Samsung Account holders as the US systems were the ones that were unauthorizedly accessed.
