Rogue Squadron is apparently no longer on Disney's calendar. According to Variety, the Patty Jenkins-directed Star Wars spin-off picture has been removed off the studio's production schedule. The film was supposed to be released on December 22, 2023, however it now appears to have been postponed indefinitely as work continues. Rogue Squadron's release date was earlier pushed out to 2022 due to Jenkins' schedule issues and other obligations. The director is now linked to the third Wonder Woman picture as well as a Cleopatra biography, both of which will star Gal Gadot.
Star Wars: Squadrons, EA's starfighter combat computer game, is the inspiration for the next great silver-screen adventure in Lucasfilm's space opera series. Players dressed in orange uniforms were sent out on 5v5 dogfights in the first-person multiplayer game. Rogue Squadron was supposed to be the first Star Wars film to hit theatres after The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. Jenkins was hired to direct the picture in December 2020, as fans enjoyed Disney+ episodes like The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett.
Walt Disney Studios has announced a number of release dates for forthcoming projects, including the Rachel Zegler-led Snow White live-action remake, which will be released on March 22, 2024. The film was announced at Disney's D23 Expo late last week, but no release date was given. Similarly, Barry Jenkins' The Lion King prequel Mufasa will be released on July 5, 2024, while Inside Out 2 will be released on June 14, 2024. Riley is a teenager in the sequel to the Oscar-winning animated picture, contending with the whirlwind of difficult emotions that come with adolescence.
Aside from Rogue Squadron, Lucasfilm is developing three additional Star Wars feature films. One with Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), another with Rian Johnson (Knives Out), and a third with Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios. There isn't enough information on these films yet, so it's unclear if they'll be released in theatres or exclusively on Disney+.
The firm has also pushed back the launching date of its Haunted Mansion theme park ride adaption. The film was originally scheduled to be released in March 2023, but it will now be released on August 11, 2023. The new release date corresponds with Sony Pictures' Gran Turismo movie, which recently added David Harbour (Stranger Things) to the cast list. An untitled Marvel Cinematic Universe film has also been moved back from February 16, 2024 to September 6, 2024.
