On September 12, Apple's newest operating system, iOS 16, will be available for select iPhone models and smartwatches. The Cupertino behemoth disclosed the date on Wednesday at its "Far Out" event. The software version delivers enhancements and a variety of customization choices. Focus mode, a new lock screen, and further privacy layers have been added to the Hidden and Recently Deleted albums with iOS 16, which forces users to access these albums using the focus mode and
use a biometric or passcode. Similar to that, iOS 16 will add haptic keyboard capability to the iPhone keyboard. New features for Messages, SharePlay, Notifications, Maps, Safari, Wallet, and other apps are included in the iOS 16 version. At its 2022 Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple unveiled iOS 16 in June, and a public beta was made available in July.
Apple has revealed that iOS 16 will be released on September 12 when the iPhone 14 series is still being introduced. It will be available for the second- and third-generation iPhone SE models, as well as the iPhone 8 or later.

The iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone X, iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone SE will all be compatible with the iOS 16 update (2nd generation or later).

With the release of iOS 16, the lock screen has been updated and given new personalization options. For inspiration, users can access a wallpaper gallery with suggested images and thematic collections. Users may also install lock screen widgets for the weather, alarm, activity rings, and calendar, as well as change the fonts used for the time and date.
With iOS 16, Apple has moved alerts and notifications to the bottom of the screen, where they are now simpler to tap and view with one hand. Apple claims that users can access a select apps from the lock screen. Users can view events as they are occuring in real-time from the lock screen using a new tool called Live Activities. Without unlocking your device, Live Activities allow you to monitor the delivery status of your food or use the Now Playing controls.
When using iOS 16, a swipe from the lock screen will bring up the focus mode. With iOS 16, you can completely unsend a recent message or alter one that has already been sent. If you are unable to reply to a message right away, you can mark it as unread. Collaboration features in Messages now include the ability to share notes, presentations, reminders, Safari Tab Groups, and more.
With the iOS 16 release, users can share photographs with up to five other users via the iCloud Shared Photo Library. Users can also choose certain dates or photographs from the Photo collection of particular people. Users can exchange photographs immediately from the camera after the shared library is set up.
On iOS 16, the Mail app will have the email scheduling feature. Additionally, users have the option to stop sending emails before they reach the inbox of their intended recipients.
Passkeys are a new way to sign in that will let users utilise Touch ID and Face ID to access apps and websites. Apple also adds privacy levels to the Recently Deleted and Hidden albums. It requires users to utilise a passcode or biometrics in order to access these albums. With iOS 16, SharePlay, which enables you to view a movie with a friend in sync, will also be available in Messages.
On iOS 16, there is a new dictation feature that allows you to enter and edit text using both your voice and a keyboard. As you speak, commas, periods, emojis, and question marks are automatically inserted.
Apple Wallet now offers more support for sharing keys and IDs, enabling users to share ID for age and identity verification. Messages, Mail, and WhatsApp may all be used to distribute keys in Wallet. Apple has also significantly improved its Maps programme, adding multistop navigation and 3D-like images. Users will be able to look up prices for public transportation.
Users may tap and hold on an image's topic to pull it out of the backdrop in iOS 16's enhanced Visual Look Up feature, or they can isolate the subject by eliminating the background and inserting it in apps like Messages. Photos, screenshots, quick look, and Safari all support this feature. Similar to Android, iOS now has support for haptic keyboard features. With this version, touching a key on the virtual keyboard on an iPhone will cause a little vibration that is driven by the Taptic Engine.
Apple Pay Later, parental controls, health features, and other new features are also included in the iOS 16 upgrade.
In October, Apple's iPadOS 16 will be made available for tablets.
