With September 7 officially set as the date of Apple's upcoming major launch, we can expect to see the iPhone 14 range at that time.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max, however, is anticipated to be the greatest, most expensive, and possibly most intriguing of the four speculated smartphones.

There is a lot to be excited about with this release, including rumours of a drastically new design, the removal of the notch, considerable camera upgrades, and other enhancements. In fact, the iPhone 14 Pro Max might be the most exciting upgrade Apple has released in years if every optimistic leak comes true.

Below, we'll go over everything we've learned so far about this superphone, including when it might be released and how much it will cost. Additionally, we'll update this article once we learn something new, so come back soon to keep informed about Pro Max.

Get to the point

It is what? A top-tier iPhone for 2022

When is it released? Very likely September 7

How much will it cost? Expect the base model to cost well over $1,200.

iPhone 14 Pro Max pricing and release information

Despite our best efforts to predict when Apple will most likely release the iPhone 14 line—even after coming across multiple leaks that confirmed our anticipated September 13 launch date—it now appears to be earlier.

Although the iPhone 14 range isn't specifically mentioned in the invitations for the event on September 7, we can almost surely expect to see it there.

Prior to that, Bloomberg columnist and well-known Apple expert Mark Gurman asserted that Apple's upcoming iPhones, including the iPhone 14 Pro Max, might arrive as early as September 7. The phone went on sale on September 16—nine days later.

There was a time when it was believed to be coming later than anticipated, especially after reports of lockdowns in China seemed to have delayed production by a few weeks. However, the company was reportedly taking steps to get back on track, and if this newest date is to be believed, it appears that has paid off.

One source speculates that the pricing of the iPhone 14 Pro Max might start at roughly $1,099/£1,049/AU$1,849, which would be comparable to the price of the iPhone 13 range.

However, according to a different source, the new phone will cost $1,199 (approximately £955 or AU$1,665), which is $100 (or around £80 or AU140) more than the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Given the quantity of upgrades anticipated for this phone, a price increase would be understandable, and we have now heard it twice.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max style

The notch on the iPhone 14 Pro Max may change, according to rumours that Apple is working on. This information has come from a variety of sources, the earliest of which is the rendering you can see below from September 2021.

According to the source, the frame is composed of titanium rather than stainless steel, which is something we've heard before.

Jon Prosser provided the initial leak, but a number of other well-known sources, including Ming-Chi Kuo and Mark Gurman, have now confirmed that the iPhone 14 Pro Max won't feature a notch.

A lot of sources now claim that the iPhone 14 Pro Max will have two cut-outs for cameras—a smaller one with a punch hole and a larger one next to it—instead of just one. This raises questions about several of the rendering's specifics. The schematic and leaked CAD (computer-aided design) renders below show how this might seem.

The pill and punch hole combination will actually be blended into one, longer, pill-shaped cut out, and it will provide the symmetry that's considerably more in keeping with the iPhone's style. However, since then, a significant adjustment has been "unearthed," and it makes much more sense to us.

We also know what tones of gold, purple, green, graphite, and silver the iPhone 14 Pro Max will come in, according to the majority of sources. There are a few additional potential colours, though they are less likely, in a case leak.

displays for iPhone 14 Pro Max

Although Ross Young, a reliable leaker, claims that the iPhone 14 Pro Max would have a 6.68-inch 1284 x 2778 OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and 458 pixels per inch, it is possible that this screen won't be a significant upgrade. It would have the same specifications as the display on the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

The forthcoming phone will reportedly have a 6.7-inch screen, according to Ming-Chi Kuo, and we wouldn't anticipate Apple to adjust the size because it doesn't do that frequently.

It's still possible that some display characteristics, like brightness, will change, but thus far, it appears to be very similar to the screen on the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Of course, this time there won't likely be a notch protruding from the top.

14 Pro Max iPhone camera

According to rumours, the iPhone 14 Pro Max's camera will receive a significant improvement from its predecessor's 12MP main (wide) sensor to a 48MP one. Respected expert Ming-Chi Kuo has stated so numerous times, but another analyst has since corroborated his claims.

Another source claims that this camera will be "the greatest on a smartphone if there's enough light," but that it now performs worse in low light.

This camera would reportedly be accompanied by two other cameras and be able to record 8K video (up from 4K on the iPhone 13 Pro Max).

These would probably contain a 12MP ultra-wide camera, similar to the one now in use. However, this camera may receive an upgrade, as 40% bigger pixels are reportedly planned, which should enable it to capture images more effectively in low light.

A periscope camera with a 5x optical zoom has also been discussed, but it appears that this won't be available before the iPhone 15 range next year.

Specifications for the iPhone 14 Pro Max

According to rumours, the iPhone 14 Pro Max would contain an A16 Bionic chipset, which is expected given that the current version has an A15 Bionic.

It's less certain how great of an improvement this new chipset will be. The most recent leak indicates that it will remain at 5nm, despite some reports suggesting it could be produced using a 4nm or even 3nm process, down from the A15 Bionic's 5nm.

Smaller numbers are preferable in this case, and a decrease in size often indicates a large increase in power and/or efficiency, but even if it stays at 5 nm, there will undoubtedly be advancements.

Depending on who you ask, the RAM may either remain at 6GB or increase to 8GB. However, the 6GB claim has been made several times, so for the time being, that seems more realistic.

However, even if the phone only has 6GB of RAM, it may still be an improvement because, according to one report, this LPDDR5 RAM is faster and more energy-efficient than the LPDDR4X RAM in the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

However, storage could see a significant increase, possibly reaching a staggering 2TB. That's twice as much storage as the iPhone 13 Pro Max offers, yet we've read elsewhere that its maximum capacity will once more be 1TB.

The usage of an eSIM in place of a physical SIM is another potential but less likely move. Since not all cell networks currently allow eSIMs, current iPhones have both. If Apple makes this switch, there will likely also be variants of the iPhone 14 Pro Max that support traditional SIM cards.

iPhone 14 Pro Max power source

According to one rumour, the iPhone 14 Pro Max might have a larger battery than its before. Given the iPhone 13 Pro Max's already amazing battery life, this is an encouraging assertion.

However, we've also heard that its battery might have a little lesser capacity at 4,323mAh, which is down from 4,352mAh in the iPhone 13 Pro Max, from a less reliable source. Nevertheless, a 30W improvement to charging may be coming, according to Twitter leaker @Jioriku.

In the meantime, there have been rumours of a switch from Lightning to USB-C in the world of implausible features. We doubt it will happen on the iPhone 14 line, but it will probably happen someday, especially given that the EU has made it a mandatory starting in 2024.

Even while it appears unlikely that Apple will go so far with the iPhone 14 Pro Max, there has been rumours of a future portless iPhone that would only enable wireless charging.
