Oppo Takes the Lead in Made in India Smartphone Shipments in Q2 2022:

 According to the latest Counterpoint analysis, made in India smartphone shipments increased 16 percent year on year in Q2 2022, reaching over 44 million units. Oppo has a 24 percent share of the Made in India smartphone shipments. Samsung trailed closely behind Oppo. Lava dominated the Made in India feature phone sector with a 21 percent market share. TWS dominated the wearables sector with a 16 percent contribution, followed by neckbands and smartwatches.

According to a recent Counterpoint study, smartphone shipments from Made in India increased by 16 percent year on year in Q2 2022, reaching over 44 million units. The rationale given was that enterprises are attempting to increase output in order to fulfil the criteria of the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) programmes.


Shipments of Made in India smartphones increased by 7% year on year (YoY) in the first quarter of 2022. Shipments of Made in India smartphones reached 48 million units in the first quarter of 2022.

Counterpoint Research Analyst Prachir Singh stated of India's local manufacturing environment, "The Made in India smartphone shipments increased compared to last year." We saw increased investment in the Indian manufacturing environment throughout the quarter, with new factories being built and old ones being extended. Oppo recently unveiled the Vihaan programme, in which it intends to invest $60 million over the next five years to strengthen the local supply chain. Samsung has boosted its production of luxury class smartphones, particularly the Galaxy S series. Going ahead, the next festive season will push Made in India shipments even more due to increased local demand."

As previously stated, Oppo leads the Made in India smartphone shipments with a 24 percent share, followed by Samsung. Lava, an Indian tech firm, dominated the Made in India feature phone sector with a 21% share. TWS dominated the wearables sector with a 16 percent contribution, followed by neckbands and smartwatches.

India's electronics manufacturing and innovation environment is predicted to grow fast.
