New iOS 16 Lock screen: How this Apple addition brightens your life

The iPhone lock screen now has a slew of new personalization possibilities thanks to iOS 16. Almost every aspect of the lock screen can be customised, including the option to change typefaces and add widgets. Best of all, it is not only functional but also simple to set up. This guide will teach you how to build and customise several lock screen settings for your iPhone.

If I had to pick one of the five best features in iOS 16, I would go with the new lock screen editing options because of the aesthetic effect they have. Apple has finally given us more control over what we can view without unlocking our phones. This may seem simple to people who use an Android smartphone, but it is undoubtedly novel to others who have never had this choice.

It's worth noting that iOS 16 is still under development and is currently only available to developers. Apple will release the public beta of iOS 16 in July, allowing all customers to test the new features before the formal launch. In our iOS update tutorial, we show you how to install iOS 16 on your iPhone.

How to Customize Your iPhone's Lock Screen with iOS 16

Apple's approach is fairly similar to the one seen on the Apple Watch in that it allows you to create a gallery of lock screens and use them based on your preferences. To make your first lock screen in iOS 16, follow these steps:

Long press the lock screen to open it (the system uses FaceID to allow one to edit the lock screen).

Tap the blue (+) symbol in the bottom right corner of the screen to make a wallpaper.

Select a wallpaper from the various categories at the top, or swipe down to see all available possibilities. (Apple uses the Photos service to recommend the best photos for inclusion on the lock screen—pretty that's great, and I utilised it in the example below.)

After you've chosen your wallpaper, touch the (+) symbol to pick the widgets you wish to utilise. The suggested widgets are at the top, but there are additional options per category as you scroll down the screen. You must now drag the selected widget to the appropriate field.

Tap the clock field to alter elements such as font and colour.

To add widgets, tap the date. Calendar, Clock, Fitness, Reminders, Stocks, and Weather are all options.

When you're through customising your lock screen, just click the "Done" button at the top right of the screen to save it.

Click the "Customize" button at the bottom to restart the customising process.

It's worth noting that each category has its own quirks. As a result, if you utilise Wallpaper Photo Shuffle, you will have the choice of selecting the type of image: People, Nature, or Urban. In addition, your lock screen selection will be used as the start screen. Unlike Android, there is no way to have both an internal and exterior wallpaper... at least not now.

Finally, you will be able to rapidly set Focus Mode from the lock screen. Another intriguing feature is the ability to switch between previously personalised lock screens by swiping left or right.

Personally, I think Apple's lock screen approach is one of the nicest I've ever used on a smartphone. It took a while, but it finally arrived in a pretty sensible format.

So, what do you think of the new iPhone lock screen personalization options? Can we argue that, despite the delay, Apple got it right with the iOS 16 solution? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
