In July, WhatsApp deleted close to 24 lakh accounts in India, according to the company's monthly compliance report. The Meta-owned messaging service releases monthly updates on measures taken against platform accounts and is considered an intermediary under the IT Rules. 14 lakh accounts were allegedly terminated by WhatsApp "proactively," meaning they were eliminated without user complaints. Facebook and Instagram disclosed on Wednesday that 2.7 crore postings were deleted from their respective social media networks in July.

The messaging app banned more than 23,87,000 accounts in India in July, according to WhatsApp's most recent report, "India Monthly Report under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021."

According to WhatsApp, the accounts were banned as a result of both user reports submitted through the company's statutory grievance redressal process required by the IT Rules and its own systems used to spot accounts that were breaking its terms of service.

It's important to note that the corporation has banned roughly 24 lakh accounts, which is the most since over 18 lakh accounts were suspended in March. In April and May, the business deleted 16 lakh and 19 lakh accounts, respectively. In June, 22 lakh accounts were suspended.

WhatsApp is required by the IT Rules' grievance redressal procedure to acknowledge and respond to user complaints. According to the company, it received 574 user reports and took action on 27 of them.

The company reports that it took action on 27 of the user reports that were most frequently about account ban appeals. The corporation also noted 116 reports for account support, 13 reports for safety, and further reports as not taken action on.

As part of its compliance report for July, Meta stated on Wednesday that it had erased more than 2.7 crore posts from Facebook and Instagram. As an intermediary under the IT Rules, Facebook worked to abide with the laws governing social media platforms by removing 1.73 crore spam postings and 23 lakh posts with violent and graphic content.
