Samsung provides a really nice tool called Samsung Smart Switch that can handle the process for you if you recently bought a new Galaxy S22 or another Samsung phone and want to move data from your old phone to the new one. Here's how to move content from your old smartphone to compatible Samsung Galaxy smartphones using Samsung Smart Switch.

Among the top selling smartphones in 2022 are Samsung models including the Galaxy A53, Galaxy Z Fold 4, and Galaxy S22. If you recently purchased one of these devices, NextPit can assist you with the data transfer. Whatever your smartphone model or operating system, there are a number of smooth ways to achieve this as of 2022.

We have gone into great depth about how to move content from an old smartphone to a new one, but we believed that the Samsung smartphones merited their own page because to the extensive features provided by Samsung Smart Switch.

Before beginning

Before you begin utilising Samsung Smart Switch to transfer content from your old smartphone to the new Samsung device, there are a few things you should be aware of. The first prerequisite is that only Samsung devices can be used with Samsung Smart Switch to transfer data. This programme cannot be used, for instance, to transfer data between, say, a Samsung device and a OnePlus device.

It's no longer as difficult to wirelessly transfer content from one smartphone to another as it once was. It is almost as quick as utilising a cable to do the work. Therefore, this is the method of device-to-device content sharing that we favour. Let's look at using Samsung Smart Switch to wirelessly transfer material based on the smartphone model you own (and the OS it runs).

Transferring content to your phone with a cable using the Samsung Smart Switch

The Samsung Smart Switch app needs to be installed on both of the involved devices, which is the first thing you need to confirm. You can download the Smart Switch Android app from the Google Play Store if your source smartphone is not a Samsung model.

This app is pre-installed on the majority of Samsung devices, and it can be accessed by selecting the following option from the menu:

Launch the Settings app.

To backup, select Accounts.

Click the Smart Switch.

The Smart Switch App might not come preinstalled on some Samsung devices that are less expensive. What you should do in this situation is as follows.

Launch the Settings app.

To backup, select Accounts.

Tap Bring old device data under the Smart Switch category.

A request to install the Smart Switch app will appear.

Follow the on-screen directions to continue and download the application.

After installing the programme, give it the required rights.

Open the app on both phones after making sure Samsung Smart Switch is installed on both phones. A screen with the words Bring data to your new phone (or Let's Go) will appear. Ensure that the two devices are in close proximity to one another.

On the old phone, select Let's go/Send data.

You will now be prompted to select the method of connection between the two devices. Select wireless.

You will see an invitation to connect pop-up screen on the old phone. Hit "accept."

Your old phone and the new phone will now try to establish a connection. The old phone will request you to approve the connection. Click Allow.

The link will be made right away.

You can now choose the content you want to transfer to the new phone. The projected amount of storage space that the transferred data will require on your new phone is also displayed on this page. Here, you can also view the anticipated transfer time.

You may also be quite specific about what you wish to import from the old phone using the app. To import the data you desire, for instance, open the submenu by tapping the arrow next to each item. You can select to import all of the SMS messages stored on the phone or just those from a certain time period, for instance, by tapping the arrow next to "Messages." Similarly, you can choose only the photos and movies you want to put on your new phone.

On the new phone, scroll down and select Transfer when you're certain.

On your new phone, hit Done once the transfer is finished.

The Samsung Smart Switch allows for cable-based data transfer to your phone.

While using Smart Switch wirelessly is the most convenient option, there are some situations where a cable will be required. Here is how to use cables to transfer data from an Android phone to a Samsung phone.

You won't need an adapter if you have a Lightning to USB-C or USB-C to USB-C cord.

Install the Google Play Store's Smart Switch app on your Android device.

Use the cable to tether the two phones together.

On the old phone, launch the Smart Switch app.

Open the Settings app on your Samsung device.

To backup, select Accounts.

Click the Smart Switch.

On the old phone, select Let's Go/Send data.

Press the cable.

Pick the stuff you require for the new phone and follow the on-screen instructions.

Tap transfer, then wait for the operation to be finished.

How to move material from an iOS device to a Samsung Smart Switch

If you're switching from an iPhone to a Samsung smartphone, Samsung advises using a cable to do it. To proceed, you will need a USB-C to USB-C cable (with an adaptor) and a Lightning to USB-C cable. Here's how to begin the procedure.

How to connect an iPhone to a Samsung Smart Switch via cable

Go to Accounts and backup by tapping Settings on the Samsung device.

Smart Switch, tap.

If Smart Switch isn't set up, take the following actions.

Open Smart Switch on the new phone, then tap Receive data.

On the "Select a source screen," tap iPhone/iPad.

Connect the cables between the two devices, then on the iPhone's pop-up prompt, select Trust.

On the Samsung handset, press Next. During this process, you could be prompted to enter your iPhone passcode.

The data to be imported from your iPhone will now be scanned by Samsung.

The list of items that can be imported is on the following page.

When you have all the desired data selected, scroll to the bottom and touch the "Transfer" button.

This can take anything from 30 minutes to many hours, depending on how much data needs to be transmitted.

Using iCloud, move content from an iPhone or iPad to a Samsung Smart Switch.

The second choice (ex-) iPhone owners have is to use iCloud to move data to a new Samsung device. However, keep in mind that iCloud does not allow you to backup as many items as the cable method does. Use this as your backup plan.

On the new Samsung handset, activate Smart Switch.

Tap Receive data, then choose iPhone or iPad.

At the bottom, select the choice that reads "Get data from iCloud instead."

Follow the on-screen instructions after entering your iCloud and AppleID login information.

Your verification code might be required from you. Tap OK.

Tap Import after selecting everything you wish to import from the iPhone.

Transfer by SD card using the Samsung Smart Switch.

You can use a microSD card or a high-capacity USB flash drive to transfer data from your old Android phone to your new Samsung phone. Both devices must have a microSD card slot in order for the SD card option to function.

Put the old phone's microSD card inside.

Install Smart Switch from the Google Play Store on the old phone.

Open Smart Switch and select Back up after tapping the SD card symbol in the upper right corner.

Now you can choose what needs to be backed up.

After making your choice, tap Back up once more and wait for the procedure to finish.

Take the SD card out of the old phone and put it in the new Samsung phone's SD card slot.

On the Samsung phone, activate Smart Switch.

Restore may be accessed by tapping the SD card symbol in the upper right corner.

Transferring material from a BlackBerry or Windows Phone to a Samsung Smart Switch

The benefit of Samsung Smart Switch is that it enables content transfer from extremely antiquated/outdated platforms, such as Windows Phones. Here's how to go about it.

Go to Settings -> Accounts and backup -> Smart Switch on the Samsung device to launch Smart Switch.

If the Samsung phone did not already have Smart Switch loaded, click here.

Tap Windows Phone after selecting Receive data.

On your outdated device, you will now see instructions on how to download Smart Switch.

obey the directions displayed on the screen.

Open the Smart Switch app on your old phone when the software has been installed, and then tap Connect.

The password for the network you must connect to will be presented on the new phone when you are prompted to do so.

Wait as the data is sent after entering the password.

What is transferred through Smart Switch? What can't it move?

Not everything across devices is transferred using the Samsung migration tool. Depending on the type of phone you are switching from, Smart Switch may be able to transfer the following types of content to your new Samsung Galaxy phone:

Contacts, plans, messages, calls, call history, and clock settings from an Android phone.

Music (DRM-free only) (DRM-free only).

Videos (DRM-free only).
