Google was fined €4.1 billion by the European Union's General Court for abusing its dominant position as an Android provider. The ruling is the latest stage in a lawsuit that began in 2018, when the EU Competition Commission penalised Google for combining Android OS with Google services.

The court upheld the accusation that Google forced phone manufacturers to pre-install the Chrome browser and Search app as part of a revenue-sharing plan. The judgement upheld the great bulk of the initial allegations but disputed that sharing revenue is also a kind of original abuse, hence the fine was reduced from its original €4.3 billion worth.

This is the second-highest court in the European Union, which means Google may appeal to the top court again. court of the bloc - the Court of Justice in Luxembourg. A statement from the company read that Android “has created more choices for everyone, not less, and supports thousands of successful businesses in Europe and around the world”.
