The new Xbox Elite Series 2 - Core controller from Microsoft has been announced. Although less expensive than the conventional Elite Series 2, the new Core controller has fewer features and none of the typical removable parts. Those will need to be purchased separately. The Xbox Elite Series 2 - Core controller is available for pre-order in India for Rs. 10,990 on the Microsoft website, but not on Amazon or Flipkart. On September 21, the new Xbox Elite controller will be available; it has a white accent.
The only accessories included with the Xbox Elite Series 2 - Core are the controller, a USB Type-C connector, and a thumbstick adjustment tool. It lacks all the extras that come with an Elite Series 2 controller that may be customised, such as a set of paddles, extra thumbsticks and a D-pad, a charging case, and a charging dock, all of which must be purchased separately. Both controllers share the same design, with rubber grips on the bottom and tactile buttons. The abundance of customizable features are what you give up here for the lesser price point of Rs. 10,990.
The basic Xbox Elite Series 2 controller, in contrast, now costs Rs. 17,990 following a recent price increase. If you don't care too much about customization, the Core series is a better value because the controller was initially advertised for Rs. 15,990. Microsoft announced that a new "Complete Component Pack" with an MSRP of Rs. 5,290 will be used to sell all additional parts. Thus, if you were to buy the pack later, your total investment would be Rs. 16,280, which is significantly less than what the regular Xbox Elite Series 2 controller currently costs.
Even Sony gave customizable gamepads a shot last month when they unveiled the PS5 DualSense Edge controller. It would let you to switch between thumbsticks, add back buttons, customise button arrangement, and create control profiles that can be switched depending on the game you're playing, just like the Xbox Elite Series.
The Xbox Elite Series 2 - Core (White) controllers go on sale starting today, with a release date of September 21. The controller is not yet offered on any Indian online retailers' websites.
