According to reports, the Brazilian government has fined Apple BRL 12.275 million (about Rs. 18 crore) for failing to include a charger in the package with its iPhone models. The government claims that this left purchasers with an incomplete product. According to a source, Apple was also instructed to stop selling iPhone models in the nation without included chargers a day before the Cupertino company is anticipated to introduce the iPhone 14 range, the ostensible successors to its iPhone 13 lineup.
The Justice Ministry of Brazil has instructed Apple to stop selling the iPhone 12 and subsequent versions, as well as other iPhone models that do not include a charger, according to a Reuters report. The ministry also said that the iPhone was missing a "essential" component and that the omission of the charger was a "deliberate discriminatory activity against consumers."
According to the article, which cites the order posted in Brazil's official gazette, Apple was also penalised BRL 12.275 million, or nearly Rs. 18 crore.
With the release of the iPhone 12 in 2020, the firm stopped including chargers as part of what it claims are efforts to cut carbon emissions. The Justice Ministry apparently disregarded these arguments, asserting that there was no proof that the omission of a charger provided environmental protection.
Apple is rumoured to be releasing its alleged iPhone 14 series on Wednesday, which includes the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. According to rumours, the versions with the suffix "Max" have bigger displays than the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. With the release of the iPhone 14 series this year, Apple is anticipated to differentiate between Pro and non-Pro versions in terms of hardware.
