Although Apple's VR headgear seems fantastic, it won't be available this year.

On September 7, Apple fans may look forward to the Far Out event, which promises to be exciting.

Along with the announcements of the iPhone 14 that we anticipate, Apple's stage in Cupertino is also anticipated to host the new Apple Watch 8, Apple Watch SE 2, and perhaps even the AirPods Pro 2.

Don't get your hopes up, though; the Apple VR headset is one Apple product that is almost certainly not going to be released in 2022.

The Apple VR headset hasn't been formally recognised by Apple, but that hasn't prevented a consistent trickle of rumours from California over the past few years. According to trademarks, the headset will likely be called the Reality Pro or Reality One. In addition to revealing its existence, the leaks provided hints about its features and the many development difficulties it encountered.

Due to these difficulties, Apple's VR headset has had multiple delays; the latest delivery date appears to be early in 2023. The launch year has been confirmed as 2023 by a number of sources over the previous few months, making an announcement at this event in September 2022 extremely implausible.

Beyond the rumoured release date, the iPhone 14 is another factor that makes us doubt Apple's VR headset will materialize.

Apple cannot outdo the iPhone 14 in our analysis.

We had speculated that the 2023 rumour might not be true for Apple's other 2022 events (such WWDC 2022). Not only were there less sources to back it up at the time, but it seemed like the events themselves would benefit from the shock and awe that an unveiling of an Apple VR headset would offer. An iPhone announcement is not one of those situations.

The new iPhone frequently draws a lot of attention, whether out of love or hate. Unsurprisingly, Apple stans will be ready to applaud its advancements, while its critics will be eager to provide unfavourable comparisons to the iPhone 13, iPhone 12, and Samsung Galaxy S22 - noting that its 'upgrades' are minimal or have been available on android for years.

Your newsfeeds will be overflowing for the next week or so with posts on the iPhone 14.

Apple cannot take the chance of its iPhone being outperformed by a smartphone, and vice versa.

Apple would only be doing one or both of the devices a disservice if it also displayed its VR headgear. In order for Apple to position the headset as a worthy competitor to Meta's already well-liked Oculus Quest 2 and upcoming Project Cambria, either the headset's novelty will prevent the iPhone 14 from capturing the news cycle as anticipated, or the iPhone 14's popularity will cause the headset to miss out on valuable time in the spotlight.

Given these circumstances, it is likely that the Apple VR headset won't be present at this event or any of Apple's other 2022 events. The same is said to apply to its suspected AR smart glasses, known as Apple Glasses, which are expected to come even later.
