On Wednesday, Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 SoCs. These chipsets are made for the mass-volume and mid-tier markets, respectively. Kryo cores of the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 have a maximum clock speed of 2.2GHz and are manufactured using a 4nm technology. This chipset has a Qualcomm Spectra triple 12-bit ISP for image processing, which enables gigapixel-speed photo capturing. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 uses a 6nm manufacturing process and has eight Kryo cores with a maximum clock speed of 2GHz.

Specifications and features of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC has a 64-bit architecture and is produced using a 4nm technology. The chipset is combined with an Adreno GPU and has Kryo cores with a maximum clock speed of 2.2GHz. It provides extensive 5G connection and supports mmWave and Sub-6.

Full-HD+ displays with a refresh rate of 120Hz are supported by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC. It has a triple 12-bit ISP from Qualcomm called Spectra that can handle images from a single camera up to 200 megapixels. It has the ability to capture 4K videos at 30 frames per second. It also offers HDR gaming at frame rates greater than 60.

For improved AI performance, it comes with the 3rd Gen Qualcomm Sensing Hub and the 7th Gen Qualcomm AI Engine. These upgrades can help features like AI-based activity tracking, audio enhancement, and background noise cancellation. The Wi-Fi 6E standard is compatible with the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC, and Bluetooth v5.2 connectivity is supported.

Specifications and features of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 SoC

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 SoC has eight Kryo cores with a maximum clock speed of 2GHz and is manufactured using a 6nm technology. In comparison to earlier Snapdragon 4 series chipsets, it is stated to offer up to 15% CPU and 10% GPU performance improvements. Sub-6GHz 5G connectivity is provided by the integrated Snapdragon X51 5G Modem-RF System.

Its Qualcomm Spectra Triple ISP technology supports simultaneous photography, videography, and single photos of up to 108 megapixels from three cameras. Support for full-HD+ (1,080x2,520 pixel) displays with a 120Hz refresh rate is provided by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 SoC. This chipset supports Bluetooth v5.2 and dual-band Wi-Fi at 2.4GHz and 5GHz. The Qualcomm AI Engine featuring Qualcomm HVX technology for multi-microphone support, far-field detection, and echo cancellation is part of the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 SoC.

Qualcomm anticipates the availability of devices with the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC in Q1 2023. Motorola has made known that it intends to use this chipset in a future product. On the other hand, smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 SoC might be available by Q3 2022. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 SoC will power the iQoo Z6 Lite, according to iQoo. On September 14, this smartphone is scheduled to debut in India.
