Following the US Capitol Riots in January 2021, Google banned Parler from the Google Play Store. Now, more than a year later, Parler is back. Conservative Americans are increasingly using this social networking platform. As an alternative to other social media networks like Twitter, it was introduced in 2018. Supporters of former US President Donald Trump helped it gain traction. However, the Parler app was taken down from a number of significant internet platforms because it was unable to detect violent content, which is thought to be what inspired Trump fans to attack the US Capitol.
The Parler app is reportedly being reinstated on the Google Play Store because it has improved its content control through a number of steps, according to Reuters.
The app now has the option to blacklist abusive users and delete anything that can inspire violence, according to a Google spokeswoman. To meet with Play Store guidelines, the app has undergone significant modification. On Friday, it became available on the Play Store.
After being deleted from the Play Store, Parler did provide Android users with a different version of the app on its website.
Following the riots in January 2021, Parler was also taken down from the Apple App Store. Then, in May of last year, it was reactivated.
