With the release of Android 12L for tablets and the upcoming Pixel Watch for wearables, Google has demonstrated in the past year that it is working to improve areas outside of Android. We discover via a report from The Verge that Google was planned to produce a new Pixelbook, but those plans have now been scrapped. Laptops were another market that Google was seeking to expand next year.

Members who worked on the Pixelbook project have been moved to other departments as a result of Google's recent internal cost-cutting measures. Rick Osterloh, the head of Google's hardware division, reportedly told The Verge that the company would "make Pixelbooks in the future."

The Verge was informed by a Google spokesperson that "Google doesn't share future product plans or personnel information; however, we are committed to building and supporting a portfolio of Google products that are innovative and helpful for our users […] In regards to our people, in times where we do shift priorities we work to transition team members across devices and services.”

On October 6, Google will unveil new hardware, including the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, a new Pixel Watch, and possibly even some new Nest Home products. Google is also on schedule to debut a Pixel foldable device sometime in 2019, though not at the following event.
