At its Far Out event yesterday, Apple announced three new smartwatches: the new Watch SE, Watch Series 8, and Watch Ultra. Apple also revealed additional Trail Loop, Alpine Loop, and Ocean Band straps for the Ultra model in addition to these.
The Apple Watch Ultra is the company's largest smartwatch to date, measuring 49mm in diameter. However, since Apple claims that the three bands indicated above are also compatible with Apple Watches with 44mm and 45mm case sizes, it doesn't follow that they cannot be used with some older Apple Watch models. Smaller case sizes aren't mentioned, therefore it's safe to infer that the Watch Ultra's 49mm bands won't fit them.
However, as Apple claims that the 45mm bands are compatible with 42mm, 44mm, and 49mm cases, if you already own a 45mm band for a non-Ultra model Apple Watch, you can use it with the Ultra model.
Apple's website already offers for sale the Apple Watch Ultra and its straps. For more information on the new Apple Watch Ultra, Watch SE, and Watch Series 8 models, visit this page to read our coverage of their announcement. Click here to find out how much each model costs in important markets.
