According to cyber security firm CyberX9, Vi (previously Vodafone Idea) exposed its users' data, including the records of more over 20 million postpaid consumers, to hacking. A total of 301 million subscribers, including all postpaid users, had their phone numbers, addresses, call logs, SMS records, and information about their mobile Internet activity exposed online. Later, Vodafone Idea denied the data leak, labelling the information as maliciously false. It reportedly asserted that as soon as the Telecom business was made aware of the potential weakness in its billing communication, it was quickly rectified.
According to a research by the cybersecurity company CyberX9, several Vi security flaws have allowed approximately 301 million subscribers to have their call logs, SMS, Internet usage, location, full name, Vi phone number, home address, backup contact number, bill information, and more exposed. They stated that details of the 20 million users who subscribed to the postpaid services offered by the telecom behemoth were among the exposed data. The leaked call data records allegedly contain personal information such as a Vi customer's home address, primary phone number, and secondary contact number.
The privacy and security of millions of Vodafone Idea customers will be irreparably harmed, according to CyberX9. The business also accused Vodafone Idea of exposing private customer information over the previous two years, alleging that malicious hackers may have already stolen the information.
In the meantime, Vodafone Idea refuted the assertion. A Vi spokesman responded to Gadgets360's request for comment on the matter with the following statement:
Vi continued, "Vi customer data remains completely safe and secure."
