Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the rollout of 5G services in India during his speech on July 4. The "wait for 5G" is ended, he claimed. Additionally, the PM stated that optical fibre will be made available to Indian villages, and that every hamlet in the nation will have access to the internet.

According to certain speculations, on this Independence Day, two of the main telecom providers, Reliance Jio and Airtel, would introduce their 5G services. These large telecom companies have been working on their 5G services for a while. Jio and Airtel are competing to introduce 5G services in India first.

Gopal Vittal, the CEO of Airtel, recently stated that 5G services would be made available very soon, although he did not provide a specific launch date. Some reports, though, suggest that Airtel’s 5G service will launch by the end of this month. The CEO also said that Airtel plans to cover all towns and cities, including rural areas by 2024. Meanwhile, some reports suggest that Jio will launch its 5G services on August 15, which is today. The company hasn’t revealed any specific details yet.

All of the major telecom companies who participated in the auction, including Airtel, Reliance Jio, Vi, and Adani Data Network, are aiming to push out 5G services as quickly as possible. Airtel has announced agreements with industry giants like Samsung, Nokia, and Ericsson as well as plans to begin rolling out its 5G network in India by the end of August.

Other internet rumours claim that PM Modi would introduce 5G on September 29 at the opening of the India Mobile Congress (IMC). Recall that Jio was the pioneer in the 4G race, and it's likely that the telecom company will follow in its footsteps. Who will prevail in the 5G competition between Jio and Airtel? Only time will tell.
