The CFI-1200 model of Sony's PlayStation 5 console, which was just made public by Japanese retailers, will go on sale on September 15th. Press Start, an Australian publisher, has just learned that the 2021 revision was heavier than this most recent version.
Due to a change of the heat sink, the prior version (the "CFI-1100") was 300g lighter than the digital edition's debut model. It's possible that this most recent revision reduces weight further by reducing the heat sink. It's noteworthy to note that the weight of the new Disc Edition equals that of the first Digital Edition.
Although it hasn't been confirmed, there is some suspicion that this redesign will move the APU to a 6nm node (down from the original 7nm node). If true, it will require less. cooling, which could justify the weight saving. Either way, the latest revision is said to be optimized for faster production.
PS. In case you missed the bad news, Sony is raising PS5 prices almost everywhere. Check out our post for the updated pricing (up as little as 6% or as high as 21%, depending on the region).
