This week, Sonos reported its third quarter earnings, and during that time, it almost certainly revealed that the long-awaited Sub Mini subwoofer wouldn't be arriving as soon as anticipated.
The Sub Mini, a compact, cylindrical subwoofer that was leaked by The Verge in May, is anticipated to be less expensive than the $749 Sonos Sub that is currently available. The Ray, the Arc, and the second-generation Beam soundbars from the firm will all wirelessly pair with the Sub Mini.
The Sub Mini made an appearance on the FCC in June, a month after the leak, indicating that the time between filing and commercial release will proceed according to Sonos' customary schedule. The Sub Mini, however, appears to have been postponed until the first fiscal quarter of 2023.
In an email to The Verge, a Sonos representative confirmed the news, writing, "I can confirm we opted to defer a planned product launch from Q4 '22 into Q1 '23." This places the release of the subwoofer between October and December.
In its Q3 results report, Sonos stated that revenue was lower than anticipated and cited rising inflation and the strengthening of the dollar as reasons that had negatively impacted customer demand for its electronics category. In addition to having a "difficult Q4," Sonos claimed it is holding onto more inventory than it would like.
