Huawei said earlier this week that the Mate 50 series of smartphones would debut in China on September 6. According to reports, the portfolio might contain up to four variants. The chipset that will power the Mate 50 series has been named thanks to a leak by Chinese source Digital Chat Station.
Four variants, including the Mate 50e, Mate 50, Mate 50 Pro, and Mate 50 RS Edition, are said to be part of the Mate 50 portfolio. According to reports, the Snapdragon 778G SoC will power the Huawei Mate 50e, the Snapdragon 888 will power the Mate 50, and the Kirin 9000S will power the Mate 50 Pro and RS Edition. The latest report, however, indicates that the Mate lineup will feature a new Snapdragon processor.
The informant claims that a Snapdragon chipset with the model number SM8425 and the codename "Waipio LTE" powers the Mate 50 series. Recall that the part numbers for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 are SM8450 and SM8475, respectively.
The SM-84250 looks to be the 4G version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 CPU, whereas the SD8G1 and SD8+G1 are 5G-capable processors. Therefore, based on the information that has been disclosed, the Mate 50 series will reportedly feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 4G.
It's possible that the Mate 50e, a variant that seems to be inexpensive, does not include the SD8G1 4G. The other models in the list may therefore include the new processor, it would seem. Ideally, the Mate 50 series willoffer up to a 120Hz OLED display and run on HarmonyOS 3.0. The lineup will not support 5G connectivity. Reports have claimed that third-party manufacturers have made 5G-enabled phone cases, which can enable 5G connectivity on the Mate 50 lineup.
