Sennheiser's Momentum 4 Wireless noise-cancelling headphones ($349.95) stand out from earlier models thanks to its entirely new design and improved smartphone interface. In terms of audio quality, they are in direct competition with the top-rated Sony WH-1000XM5 ($399.99) and Bose QuietComfort 45 ($329), providing a bass-forward yet well-balanced sound profile with outstanding clarity. They don't quite provide the same active noise cancellation (ANC) that leads the class as any of those models, but they at least compare. Even though we enjoy the app's functionality, we would need more precise control than what the simplified EQ offers. Despite these minor flaws, the Momentum 4 Wireless headphones are a respectable substitute for our preferred models from Sony and Bose.
Design Simplified, Longer Battery Life
Even during extended listening sessions, the Momentum 4 Wireless headphones provide great comfort. The earcups may be adjusted to fit your head and provide a snug, safe fit.
Both the black and white models have a grey cloth lining on top of the headband, however you can pick between them. They stand out from the Momentum 3 Wireless headphones in that they don't have a metallic headband adjuster. The new model also has earcups that are more oval in shape. The memory foam earpads are covered in faux leather, and recessed cloth grilles clearly identify the left and right sides.
The internal frequency range of 42mm dynamic speakers is 6Hz to 22kHz. The headphones support the AAC, AptX, AptX Adaptive, and SBC codecs in addition to being Bluetooth 5.2 compliant. In this pricing range, we should expect wide-ranging codec support, but we don't always see it. However, because they also support the LDAC codec, which provides a greater maximum bitrate, Sony's headphones have a little advantage in this comparison.
