Sony has increased PS5 prices in some areas, the company revealed today. The Japanese electronics giant blamed the rise in retail prices on the state of the world economy. Sony further stated that it is observing rising rates of global inflation and unfavourable currency trends. In a few markets in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia-Pacific (APAC), Latin America (LATAM), and Canada, the retail price of the PlayStation 5 has gone up. Sony also stated that the cost of its game console in the US will not alter. No word on whether the PS5 price in India will change. Sony has been contacted by Gadgets 360 for comment.
The recommended retail price (RRP) for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition has increased, according to a blog post from Sony. According to Sony, the high global inflation rate and unfavourable currency trends are to blame for the PS5 price increase.
New PlayStation 5 costs
The Blu-ray edition of the PlayStation 5 costs EUR 549.99 (about Rs. 44,000) in Europe, while the digital edition costs EUR 449.99 (about Rs. 36,000). The cost of the game console has gone up in the UK to GBP 479.99 (about Rs. 45,400) for the Blu-ray version and GBP 389.99 (approximately Rs. 36,900) for the PS5 digital version. Prior to this, the PS5 Blu-ray edition cost EUR 499.99 (about Rs 39,900), and the digital edition cost EUR 399.99.

The price of the PS5 in China has increased to CNY 4,299 for the Blu-ray version and CNY 3,499 for the digital edition (approximately Rs. 50,100 and 40,800, respectively). The initial cost of the PS5 in Japan was JPY 49,980 (about Rs. 29,200) for the Blu-ray version and JPY 39,980 (approximately Rs. 23,400) for the digital version. In Japan, the cost of the Blu-ray version has increased by around 21%, and the cost of the digital edition has climbed by about 24%.
The new price for the PlayStation 5 in Australia is AUD 799.95 (about Rs 44,600) for the Blu-ray disc version and AUD 649.95 (about Rs 36,300) for the Digital Edition. The Blu-ray PS5 edition cost AUD 749.95 (approximately Rs. 41,800) in Australia at one point, and the digital version cost AUD 599.95. For the disc edition, the cost has gone up by roughly 7%, while the digital edition has seen an increase of about 8%.
For the disc edition, Sony has raised the price to MXN 14,999 (approximately Rs. 60,300), and for the digital-only version, to MXN 12,499 (about Rs. 50,300).
The PS5 now costs CAD 649.99 (approximately Rs. 40,200) for the disc edition and CAD 519.99 (about Rs. 32,200) for the digital edition in Canada. Previously, the digital edition cost CAD 499.99 and the PS5 Blu-ray edition cost CAD 629.99 (approximately Rs. 39,000). The cost of the disc edition has gone up by roughly 3%, while the cost of the digital-only edition has gone up by about 4%.
