Along with Microsoft, Netflix will launch an ad-supported tier the following year, but it might not include an offline streaming option. The Netflix iOS app contains wording that reads, "Downloads available on all plans except Netflix with advertisements," which was found by developer Steve Moser. Although that would make sense for the more affordable tier, Netflix has not yet commented on the situation. Early in 2023 is when the Netflix tier with advertisements is anticipated to debut.

In Q2 2022, Netflix lost one million customers. The streaming giant also plans to combat account sharing, which is costing them millions of dollars. According to estimates, 100 million households utilise shared passwords and forego service fees. Netflix intends to launch its ad-supported service in markets where subscribers pay more per month, followed by a gradual rollout to additional areas.
