Officially revealed Samsung 990 PRO NVMe SSD with 7450 MB/s read speeds

 A new SSD model was introduced by Samsung Electronics in the US earlier today (August 25th, 2022). It is the latest high-performance NVMe SSD built on the PCIe 4.0 standard, the 990 PRO.


The South Korean electronics company introduced this new SSD with gamers in mind, according to official records. It claims that the quick storage device will support running graphically demanding video games and other taxing tasks including high-resolution video editing, data analysis, and 3D modelling. Additionally, it enables higher power economy and lightning-fast speeds. The newest V-NAND and new custom controller in the Samsung 990 PRO series NVMe SSD provide it the fastest PCIe 4.0 speed.


The new SSD can consecutively write 6,900 MB/s and read 7,450 MB/s. Additionally, it provides 1,400K and 1,550K IOPS for random read and write rates. Notably, the new 990 PRO performs randomly 55% better than the previous model.previous gen 980 PRO model, which makes its better for gaming, creativity, and other productivity based tasks. With AAA games becoming larger in size and more complex, fast NVMe SSDs have become integral in offering the best gaming experience.

As a result, the 990 PRO was also tested with Forspokem, a new action RPG from Luminous Productions. In its tests, the map loaded in one second as opposed to a SATA SSD's four and a hard drive's 28 seconds (HDD). The cost of the new Samsung 990 PRO and 990 PRO with heatsink will be 179 USD for the 1TB model and 309 USD for the 2TB variant. The most expensive 4TB variant will go on sale sometime in 2019.
