Last year, Instagram added new security safeguards and parental controls to give users more control over their feeds and profiles. Sensitive content is currently being restricted on the platform by default for new teen users by the meta-owned photo and video sharing company. Unless users manually modify the setting, Instagram account holders under the age of 16 will now be placed in the app's filtered edition. Instagram is also trialling a new feature that lets teenagers check and alter their privacy and security settings.

Instagram stated on Thursday that it is broadening its sensitive content defaults for young users in a blog post. Teens only have two options under the Sensitive Content Control: "Standard" and "Less." Instagram users who are younger than 16 will automatically be placed in the "Less" state, according to the firm. The business will offer existing customers a prompt pushing them to select "Less."

Instagram's most recent update filters sensitive content for young users across Search, Explore, Hashtag Pages, Reels, Feed Recommendations, and Suggested Accounts.

The "Standard," "Less," and "More" options, in contrast, are available to users above the age of 18, and the "More" option enables them to view more private content or accounts than the default settings.

In addition, Instagram will request that users under the age of 18 examine their settings in order to improve their privacy and safety settings. Teens may use this to control who can share their stuff, contact them directly, and what kinds of content their followers can see. The company will also display alerts requesting that teenagers consider how they can control their Instagram usage.

With the aim of making Instagram a safer place for children, all of these new regulations are being implemented. The business unveiled a sensitivity filter in July of last year, allowing users to control how much potentially sensitive content appears on their "Explore" tab. Later in August, it began asking users for their birthday information in order to determine the average age of platform users and block inappropriate content from showing up in their news feed.

Instagram introduced parental controls in March of this year, enabling parents to monitor how much time their kids are spending on the platform. Parents may examine the profiles their children follow on Instagram and can establish time limits for how long their children can spend on the app with the use of Instagram monitoring tools.
