According to a Google Play official's blog post published on Thursday, the number of active monthly users of Indian apps and games increased by 200 percent in 2021 compared to 2019. According to Google Play Partnerships Director Aditya Swamy's blog, customer spending on Google Play increased by 80% between 2019 and 2021. "In comparison to 2019, the number of active monthly users of Indian applications and games increased by 200 percent, while consumer spending increased by 80 percent in 2021. With consumers outside of India spending 150 percent more time on Indian applications and games on Google Play in 2021 compared to 2019 local developers are also reaching a global audience "said Swamy.
According to Swamy, India has reached a critical milestone of 100 unicorns, privately held startups valued at more than $1 billion (approximately Rs. 7,900 crore), and a major number of these were app-driven firms.
He claimed that Google Play, which has been available in India for ten years, was able to establish a healthy ecosystem of incredible apps across categories thanks to the innovative and flourishing ecosystem of developers and companies in the nation.
According to Swamy, "apps across categories including education, payments, health, entertainment, and gaming have witnessed spectacular growth, particularly in the previous two years."
He claimed that the gaming industry has experienced significant growth, with Ludo King becoming one of the first titles from India to surpass 500 million downloads.
According to Swamy, more than 2.5 billion people in more than 190 countries visit Google Play each month to find apps, games, and other digital entertainment. Additionally, more than two million developers collaborate with the company to expand their brands and connect with customers across the world.
