For about a month, Microsoft has been testing the Xbox Game Pass family sharing option. The name of the plan comes from the ability to distribute Game Pass benefits to other players. Microsoft might use a different branding strategy, implying that subscribers will be able to share benefits with more than just their immediate families.

Aggiornamenti Lumia, a Twitter user, noticed the branding for "Game Pass Friends & Family." However, this is not a novel concept. For a time now, it has been anticipated that Microsoft will unveil a new sharing scheme for Xbox Game Pass. Even though the new branding suggests that sharing will extend beyond only family members.

Users may share their subscription benefits with up to 4 people under the subscription plan currently being tested in Ireland and Colombia. However, it makes no mention of the requirement that these users be relatives. The only requirement is that the individuals you share your subscription with must live in the same nation. Therefore, naming the plan "Friends & Family" makes a lot more sense than just "Family."

Since Xbox Game Pass will not be restricted to family members, unlike other subscription services, the "Friends & Family" branding may persuade more people to sign up for it. Furthermore, given that PS Plus's sharing concept is restricted to two consoles, this may provide Game Pass an advantage over PS Plus.

PS Plus from Sonyallows sharing the subscription with the Gold tier. However, the benefits can be shared between the consoles one owns and up to two consoles. Even the benefits are limited, which will not be the case with the Xbox Game Pass’ Friends & Family subscription.
