IDC reported that while smartphone shipments in India decreased 5% from Q1 2022, they increased by roughly 3% year over year in Q2 2022. The total number of smartphones sold fell by 1% during the first half of 2022.

In addition to rising inflation that causes demand to decline, IDC cites the residual effects of supply restrictions in 2021 as a contributing factor. For instance, the average selling price increased consistently starting in Q4 2020 and reached $213 in the second quarter of this year. That is a 15% yearly gain.

Despite its shipments declining 28.2% from the same time last year, Xiaomi is still in the lead among smartphone vendors with a 20.4% market share. Xiaomi lost 8.8 percentage points of its market share as a result.

Realme and vivo had significant growth and are now in second and third place, with 17.5% and 16.9% of the market, respectively. In terms of overall volume, Samsung fell all the way to fourth place as a result of stagnant shipping growth.

With sales up 83% year over year and accounting for 6% of the market, the premium market category for phones costing above $500 is expanding rapidly. With a 53% market share, Apple is still in first place, followed by OnePlus (19%) and Samsung (15%).
