How to Watch TV While Wearing Headphones

The speakers on your TV, or even better, a soundbar, are perfect for dispersing sound when you're watching TV with friends. You don't have to share that audio with your entire family when you're watching TV alone, though. In reality, if you're the only one watching TV late at night or if you're using your TV as a second monitor while working from home, you probably don't want to disturb your significant other, roommates, children, or neighbours. If you truly want to remain silent, you can turn off the speakers and rely on the closed captions, but we offer a better option: Put headphones on.

You can listen to anything you want while wearing headphones without disturbing those around you. You most likely utilise them for listening to music or podcasts, or even watching videos on your phone or computer, but they aren't limited to mobile devices or PCs. Below, we outline several ways to connect your favorite headphones and earphones to your TV to help you enjoy the combined benefits of private audio and a big screen.

Can I Use Wired Headphones to Watch TV?

The easiest and most obvious way to use your headphones with your TV is in this manner. It is also the least practical. Simply connect your wired headphones to the 3.5mm headphone jack on your TV. You can utilise your headphones if your TV has RCA stereo outputs instead of a 3.5mm port by purchasing an RCA-to-3.5mm adaptor.

The obvious issue with this is that you need a very long connection in order to listen comfortably away from your TV. You are physically bound to your TV even if you have that wire. Additionally, you need to be careful not to trip or pull the cable. This strategy isn't the greatest unless your TV is small and nearby, and even then, we don't advocate it.

You already have a built-in wireless option if you have an Amazon Fire TV video streamer (such the Fire TV Cube or Fire TV Stick 4K) or a TV that uses Amazon's Fire TV platform: Bluetooth. Direct Bluetooth connections to game controllers, keyboards, and headphones are supported by the Fire TV platform. As a result, you can easily pair your preferred Bluetooth headphones with your Fire TV device, just like you would with a smartphone (or a separate set if you want to have some TV-only headphones close by).

Select Controllers & Bluetooth Devices from the Settings option on the home screen. Select Add New Device under Other Devices. Activate pairing mode on your Bluetooth headphones and choose them when they show up on the screen.

Chromecast: Bluetooth

Google TV (and its predecessor, Android TV) devices can pair with Bluetooth devices just like a Fire TV (which runs on Android). This implies that you can use your Bluetooth headphones with any Hisense, Sony, or TCL Google TV-powered device or a Chromecast Integrated with Google TV.

Both Google TV and Android TV follow the same procedure. Go to the Settings menu from the home screen and choose Remote & Accessories. Put your Bluetooth headphones in pairing mode and select Add Accessory. Finally, when the headphones appear in the menu, pick them. I'm done now.
