If you're like most people, your Android phone has close to 100 apps, but you only use less than 10 of them on a regular basis. Obviously, you shouldn't eliminate those other programmes just because you don't use them frequently; you never know when you might need them.
However, by continuing to run in the background, those apps might still drain your battery. Fortunately, you can put inactive apps to sleep on your Samsung phone to prevent background usage and battery drain. Let's look at how to make this option available in the settings.
How to Sleep Apps on Samsung Smartphones
You should first be aware of the purpose of putting apps to sleep before we go through the processes. Samsung phones separate background restrictions into three categories: apps that sleep, apps that sleep deeply, and apps that never sleep. This is what it indicates:
Apps that sleep: Occasionally, these apps will run in the background. These apps may provide notifications later than expected, and there may be sporadic app updates. Ideal for apps you occasionally but infrequently use.
Apps for deep sleep: These programmes only function when you open them and never run in the background. They might not receive any changes, and you might not receive any notifications that were sent. Perfect for programmes you use seldom.
Apps that never sleep: These programmes might always be running in the background. They can utilise battery life as they see fit and are not constrained. Ideal for often used and critical software.
Please be aware that because they are an essential component of your phone's operating system, system apps including Phone, Camera, Clock, Messages, Bixby, and more cannot be put to sleep.
On a Samsung phone, follow these instructions to put apps to sleep:
Go to Battery and device care in Settings.
To enable your phone to automatically put unused apps to sleep based on your usage, go to Battery > Background usage limits and toggle on Put unused apps to sleep.
To manually add apps, pick Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps, then tap the Plus button, choose the apps you want, and press Add.
Tap Never sleeping apps and perform the same steps for the apps you frequently use.
Remember that forcing an app to close on your phone is not the same as putting it to sleep. An application typically restarts itself right away after being forced to stop. In comparison to if you had done nothing and left it alone, this increases the stress on your device.
But when you put an app to sleep (or deep sleep, to be precise), you're essentially telling it to stop communicating with and consuming the resources of your phone, particularly the battery. Additionally, a programme cannot run in the background or carry out its regular tasks without electricity. For this reason, putting apps to sleep is preferable to shutting them abruptly.
How to Select Sleep-Inducing Apps
The instructions below can help you decide which apps to turn off:
Navigate to Settings > Parental Controls and Digital Wellbeing.
Check out your most and least used apps over the course of the past week by tapping the Screen Time indicator.
To view the whole list of utilised apps, select View more. Put those who are least used to sleep, those who are most used to never sleep, and those who are not used to sleep deeply.
Turn Off Unused Apps to Save Battery
Of course, deleting the apps you haven't used in a while is a better option and is always an option. In any case, it's beneficial to conserve as much battery life as you can.
