Google's efforts to enhance the entire experience on Android devices are highlighted in the most recent APK Teardown by the folks over at XDA-Developers, which comes as new Wear OS devices begin to trickle into the market.

New strings in the Google Play Services beta version 22.32.12 build indicate that Google is almost ready to introduce support for backing up smartwatch data when moving to a new device. The following prompts are contained in one string, companion backup opt in title: Back up your device with Google One/Back up by Google One/Choose backup account.

Currently, you need to factory reset a Wear OS smartwatch before connecting it to a new Android smartphone. It would be much easier if there was a backup option for the device.

The suggestion of Google One, a premium Google subscription, is intriguing. The Google One app contains settings and management for Google's device data backups for iOS and Android, while a Google One membership is not necessary to access the feature. We don't believe Google would hide a function like this behind a barrier because Google One subscribers already pay for more storage on their Google Account.

Given the date of this discovery, Google might include the function in time for the release of its anticipated Pixel wristwatch, which is expected to happen soon.in October along with the Pixels 7 and 7 Pro.
